Compassionate Help For Divorce Law Matters

Divorce is often difficult. The emotions you experience when you admit to yourself and others that your marriage is “irretrievably broken” are never easy. The technical, legal requirements of Pennsylvania law can be cumbersome and given the emotions you feel, all the more difficult.

We at the Law Office of Stephen W. Grosh understands your position. We have worked with many people going through the divorce process and we know it is never easy. But our experience allows us to ease some of the difficulties and explain the potential outcomes for your unique circumstance. This helps you to make informed decisions, complete the process and move on with your life.

More Than Just Emotions

But a divorce is more than just emotions. There are very important legal determinations on child custody, asset division, child support, spousal support and alimony. In this area, our attorney can help with a clear-eyed assessment of each aspect of your divorce.

Property division is very important, because unlike custody, child or spousal support, it is almost never subject to modification. You have one chance to do it properly and we can help. Having bank statements and tax records is very important, as well as knowledge of all of your debt obligations, as those too, must be divided.

Child Support, Spousal Support And Alimony

Child support is presumed, as parents inherently have an obligation to support their children. There is a statutory formula and guidelines that are used to determine the amount depending on the family’s circumstance. We can help you understand how this works and how this is related to your custody agreement.

Spousal support and alimony are different. During the divorce, spousal support (alimony pendente lite) may be available. In the final decree, alimony may be granted if necessary. The court will review a number of factors including the length of the marriage and the dependency of a spouse.

If both spouses have always worked and have relatively equal income, support or alimony is unlikely; if one has stayed home, raised the children and supported the career of the other spouse, it may be more likely.

Our attorney can also assist with annulments and other related family law issues.
